The Hungry Williams “Brand New Thing”
Quoi de mieux en cette période, où musicalement on revit, que d’écouter ce groupe de Milwaukee pour se vider la tête. Au programme, 15 titres de jump blues décapants (principalement des reprises), où la chanteuse Kelli Gonzalez (ce n’est pas elle sur la
jaquette) donne de la voix avec beaucoup d’énergie. Il y a de la Candye Kane en elle. Jack Stewart (clavier), Joe Vent (guitare, chant), John Carr (batterie) et Mike Sieger (basse) ne sont pas en reste et sont d’une cohésion remarquable. Ils reçoivent le soutient de Troy Leisemann (saxo tenor), Julia Bustle (saxo bariton) et de Bob Jennings (saxo bariton). Les échanges guitares, claviers, cuivres sont éblouissants. Chacun y va de son solo sans en être trop démonstratif. C’est concis, toujours fin et de bon goût. On sent à l’écoute que tous se sont éclatés à l’enregistrement, et c’est la musique qui en sort gagnante. J’ai un faible pour « Brand New Thing », « Baby don’t do it » et le fougueux « Get your hat ». C’est mon coup de cœur du moment et sûrement pour longtemps. Indémodable, car hors du temps… Indispensable. Quelle belle découverte.

I have a weakness for “Brand New Thing, “Baby don’t do it” and the fiery “Get your hat.” It’s my current favorite, and will surely be so for a long time. Timeless, because outside of time. Indispensible. What a beautiful discovery.
